The first steps are to formally report the injury and get medical treatment. Generally, Missouri employees must notify their employer within 30 days of the injury and have two years to file a claim. Illinois employees must notify their employer within 45 days and have three years to file a claim. There are exceptions to these requirements and deadlines but your claim will never improve with age–instead, delay will cause it to become less valuable or lost entirely. So report your injury to a supervisor as soon as possible, tell them that you need to see a doctor, AND CALL US IMMEDIATELY. Evidence must be preserved, and the best way to get the most out of any claim is to consult with us EARLY.
In Missouri, once the employer or insurer designates a doctor, then the workers compensation insurer will pay for your treatment–but only with the designated, authorized treaters.
